Lessons from the Field: Innovations in Behavioral Health Workforce Education, Training, and Development

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW), Division of Nursing and Public Health (DNPH) invites its behavioral health grantees to submit abstracts that reflect creative approaches for preparing students in behavioral health programs to transcend learning and provide integrated care throughout the nation as critical members of the workforce. HRSA will convene a virtual behavioral health workforce development conference on September 13, 2017, to highlight the accomplishments, best practices, and lessons learned from HRSA’s behavioral health workforce programs. 

These programs include:

  • Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) Professional Track
  • Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) Paraprofessional Track
  • Graduate Psychology Education (GPE)
  • Leadership in Public Health Social Work Education (LPHSWE)
  • Mental and Behavioral Health Education and Training (MBHET)
  • Nursing Education, Practice, Quality and Retention (NEPQR)

The conference aims to showcase innovative academic and training approaches used by grantees to expand the distribution of a skilled behavioral health workforce focused on working in underserved populations and communities in need. Grantees are encouraged to submit abstracts which highlight their successes and/or lessons learned in behavioral health workforce development.

Submission Eligibility: Current or previous behavioral health grantees from the BHWET (professional and paraprofessional tracks), GPE, LPHSWE, MBHET, and NEPQR programs.

HRSA/BHW/DNPH is soliciting abstracts from behavioral health grantees in one of four tracks to be featured in the virtual conference:

Track 1: Behavioral Health Integration in Primary Care: Training Models to Reach Rural and Medically Underserved Populations
Track 2: Evidence-based/Culturally Informed Practices to Reach Children, Adolescent and Transitional-age Youth; Rural and Other Underserved Populations
Track 3: High Performing Academic/Community Collaborations and Partnerships in Behavioral Health
Track 4: Emerging Issues for the Behavioral Health Workforce: Diversity, Distribution and Access to Care
